RIO DE JANEIRO. La prima medaglia d’oro italiana a Rio 2016 (e numero 200) arriva dal judo. La conquista Fabio Basile, 21 anni, che nella categoria dei 66 Kg sconfigge il coreano An Baul per Ippon dopo appena un minuto e ventiquattro secondi. In precedenza l’azzurro aveva superato lo sloveno Adrian Gomboc e il mongolo Davaadorj. Il torinese, che gareggia per il gruppo sportivo dell’Esercito, si è guadagnato il pass per le Olimpiadi grazie alla medaglia di bronzo vinta ai Campionati Europei di Kazan e alla finale nel Grand Prix di Tbilisi. Medaglia di bronzo per il giapponese Masashi Ebinuma e per l’uzbeko Rishod Sobirov. E’ dai Giochi di Montreal 1976 che l’Italia sale almeno una volta sul podio alle Olimpiadi. A completare la giornata trionfale del judo italiano, l’argento di Odette Giuffrida, sconfitta solo ai punti nella finale nella categoria -52kg dalla kosovara Majlinda Kelmendi. In precedenza l’azzurra aveva sconfitto la cinese Ma, la tedesca Kraeh e la rumena Chitu. Per il Kosovo è un momento storico, trattandosi della prima medaglia d’oro in assoluto. Ricordiamo che il Kosovo non è riconosciuto ufficialmente come stato dalla comunità internazionale, ma di fatto lo è dal Cio. Storica medaglia per le azzurre Cagnotto e Dellapè. Le ragazze dei tuffi sono le prime donne a salire sul podio olimpico nei tuffi, aggiudicandosi la medaglia d’argento. Prima di loro, soltanto Klaus Dibiasi e Cagnotto senior. Meglio dell’Italia nel sincro 3 metri soltanto le cinesi, praticamente imbattibili nella specialità. Garozzo vince poi l’oro nel fioretto battendo lo statunitense Massialas.
