“Viviamo nell’emergenza perché siamo strapieni e con la riduzione dei posti letto, ne mancano all’appello circa una sessantina, tutto il nostro lavoro diventa complicato”. A parlare è il primario del pronto soccorso dell’ospedale di Catanzaro, Giuseppe Masciari. La vicenda che ha coinvolto gli Ospedali Riuniti di Reggio Calabria, in seguito alla pubblicazione di foto di fratture immobilizzate con cartone, ha riproposto il tema delle criticità in cui versano le strutture sanitarie calabresi, in particolare i Pronto soccorso dei principali presidi, alle prese con le rigide restrizioni imposte dal Piano di rientro. Tra le situazioni maggiormente complesse in Calabria rientra sicuramente quella del Pronto soccorso dell’ospedale del capoluogo di regione. Masciari fa il punto della situazione nel suo reparto con l’Agi. Fornisce alcuni dati che danno la misura delle difficoltà che quotidianamente si trova ad affrontare il “Pugliese”, riconducibili soprattutto alla carenza di personale in rapporto al numero degli accessi, che nel periodo estivo arrivano fino a 300 al giorno a fronte dei 180-200 al giorno nel resto dell’anno. Sul piano delle attese e dei tempi necessari per una visita, secondo Masciari “al Pronto soccorso catanzarese il trend è più o meno in linea con quello nazionale, nel senso che andiamo bene con i codici rossi, piuttosto bene con i gialli, mentre invece abbiamo enormi difficoltà con i codici verdi, che smaltiamo con una certa fatica”. La causa è, soprattutto, il sottodimensionamento dell’organico: per l’area medica la pianta organica prevede, osserva ancora il primario, 26 unità, ma tra contratti a tempo determinato e altre situazioni particolari questo numero si riduce drasticamente. “Tuttavia – precisa Masciari – in prospettiva le cose dovrebbero migliorare, perché per l’area medica è in itinere un concorso il cui esito dovrebbe immettere nuove professionalità, e anche l’intero Pronto soccorso sarà ampliato con la consegna, prevista a breve, di nuovi locali. Quanto ai dispositivi in nostra dotazione, rispetto al passato le cose, anche qui, sono molto migliorate”. Sul caso che ha investito gli Ospedali riuniti di Reggio Calabria, il primario del Pronto soccorso di Catanzaro osserva: “Da noi questa pratica non c’è, e comunque immobilizzazioni provvisorie e molto temporanee possono anche starci. Francamente – conclude Masciari – non ci vedo nulla di così tragico né di scandaloso”.
